
James Murphey Lanier, 66, passed away Friday, November 4, 2011 at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 3:15 P.M., Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Harriette Simmons officiating and with Military Honors. The family will meet friends following the service and ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Stratford Academy, 6010 Peake Road, Macon 31220.
Mr. Lanier, son of the late Robert Freeman Lanier and Nettie Murphey Lanier, was born in West Point, GA and attended Darlington School in Rome and the University of Alabama. He served with the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was in insurance a number of years before becoming manager of The Hobby Shop. Mr. Lanier was a member of the Central Georgia Railroad Club and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carol L. Braren Lanier of Macon; his stepchildren, Katie (Jerry) Barnett, Kristin Minuto and Irene (Andy) Whitaker, all of Macon; his step grandchildren, Marco and Gabriella Minuto of Woodbury, NY; his brother, Robert (Susan Berger) Lanier of Tucson, AZ.
