James Franklin Stewart passed away at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center on May 14, 2015 at the age of 93. He was born in Enigma, GA on April 29, 1922 to Elisha Hampton and Edna Earl Stewart. He was an Army Veteran who continued his service to his country for over 30 years in civil service at Robins Air Force Base, first as an aircraft mechanic and later as a self-proclaimed "pencil pusher" in logistics. He served as a Master Mason at the Fort Hawkins Lodge for over 50 years.
An avid golfer, his love for the sport was only surpassed by his love for the women in his life - his wife and three daughters. He is survived by his daughters Linda (Glynn) Churchwell of Macon, GA; Marcia (Billy) Johnson of Cleveland, GA; Kathy (Ray Hollingsworth) Love of Savannah, GA.; six grandchildren, Chad Churchwell, Niki (Zack) Walden, Nathan Koon, Stewart Love, B. J. (Melina) Johnson, and Kelly (Brian) Trapnell. He is also survived by four great grandsons - Riley Walden, Anderson and Connor Trapnell, and Olon Johnson.
The love of his life, Leta Holder Stewart (Sweetie), predeceased him by exactly one year and six days. His family takes comfort in the certainty that the 67 year love story that began on earth was only temporarily interrupted and continues for eternity in a far better place.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 18th, at Snow's Memorial Chapel on Pio Nono Avenue from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. A private funeral service with military honors will be held Tuesday, May 19th, at Andersonville National Cemetery. Dr. C. Michael Blizzard will officiate.
