Joanna Lynn Childs Newberry

Joanna Lynn Childs Newberry, 47, lost her valiant battle with cancer on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday at Vineville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Duke and the Rev. Dan Underwood officiating. The family will meet friends in the Christian Life Center following the service.

Joanna was a lifelong resident of Macon and a graduate of Southwest High School. She was a devoted homemaker whose passion was her family - foremost - her three boys, serving diligently as “Team Mom” for West Macon Little League and as “Home Room Mother” for many years. Joanna was a member of Doles United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, John B. Childs, Sr. and by a niece, Lindsay Brooks Knight.

She is survived by her beloved family, her husband, Richard Keith Newberry, Macon; her sons, Brandon Keith Newberry, Jonathan Kyle Newberry and Tyler James Newberry, all of Macon; her mother, Faye N. Childs of Macon; two sisters, Jackie (Kenny) Mitchell of Cochran and Patty Childs of Macon; a brother, John B. Childs, Jr. of Macon; several nephews and one niece.

Because of Joanna’s deep love for children, her family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Jay’s Hope, 1157-B Forsyth Street, Macon, GA 31201.
