

MACON - Joe Irwin Whitehurst, 87, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011 at a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mike Fuller and the Rev. Dewey Fisher officiating. The family will meet friends from 4 – 7 p.m., Wednesday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue. Mr. Whitehurst, son of the late Burdick Whitehurst, Sr. and Berta Winters Whitehurst, was born in Gordon and served with the U. S. Army during World War II. He had worked at Naval Ordnance Plant before retiring from Robins Air Force Base and was a member of Mikado Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of more than sixty-three years, Helen S. Whitehurst of Macon; his son, John S. (Pam) Whitehurst of Macon; his daughter, Nancy Jo Whitehurst of Macon; his grandchildren, Wes (Elizabeth) Whitehurst of Juliette and Wade (Dawn) Whitehurst of Fernandina Beach, FL; his great grandchildren, Callie Whitehurst and Levi Whitehurst of Juliette.
