

John T. Thornton, 85, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Vineville Baptist Church. Private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Dr. Richard Kremer and Mr. Charles Jay will officiate. The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 PM Monday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204.
Mr. Thornton was born in Sebastian, Florida went to school in LaGrange, Georgia and then moved in 1956 to Macon. He was the son of the late Tommie and Carey W. Thornton, Sr. of LaGrange, Georgia. Mr. Thornton was retired in 1980 as a network supervisor from Bellsouth and was a member of the Pioneers of America. He was also a member of Vineville Baptist Church, the Lamplighter Sunday School Class, the XYZ Club at Vineville Baptist, past secretary of the Adult Five, was a former deacon at Cross Keys Baptist, and a former member of the Noon Day Optimist Club.
Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his wife, Dean H. Thornton. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Steve Robinson of Forsyth; grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband, Hal Thomas of Savannah, Steven Robinson of Macon; sister-in-law, Jean Foster of Gadsden, Alabama; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the help and care extended by the staff of Plantation Suites in Macon and Pruitt Health in Forsyth for the past three years.
