

Joseph Choate League, Sr., 94, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Friday, February 26 at 1 p.m. at Mulberry United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tommy Perkins officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Burial is private.
Joseph was born on March 27, 1921 in Macon to the late George Forest and Ellamae Ellis League. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Mary Jane. He graduated from Whittle Elementary School in 1934 and received the American Legion Medal for best graduating student. In 1939, he graduated from Lanier High School as a Cadet Lieutenant in ROTC. He attended Georgia Tech until his enlistment in the U.S. Army Air Corps in December 1941. While in the Air Corps, he entered Aviation Cadet Training and began Flight Training. He graduated and received his pilots wings and commission in September 1943. That same month he married Mary Jane Proebstle in Waco, Texas. He left active duty in December 1945 and remained in the Reserve until 1964 with the rank of Captain.
Joseph owned and operated the Skylines Express, a charter service and aircraft dealer. He was active in many clubs and organizations, including the JayCees, Lions Club, Kiwanis Golden K, Commander at the American Legion – Post 3, Macon Little Theatre for over 40 years and had major roles in 25 plays, Board of Governors, and Cherry Blossom volunteer tour guide for 25 years.
He was Macon Division Manager of Prudential Insurance Company; Agency Manager United Trust of which he was owner and operator; and the League Administrative Services, Inc.
He was a member of Mulberry United Methodist Church since birth. He was active in the church as President of the Solomon Bible Class, President of the Men’s Club, usher and on the Administrative Board – Finance Committee.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Joseph Choate (Karen) League, Jr., Cheryl L. (Dr. Donald) Dennis and Meredith L. (David Mitchusson) Pretzie; grandchildren, Elisabeth L. Irwin, Mary Clare Dennis Ewing, Catherine Dennis Fruechtenicht, Caroline Dennis Campbell, Christina Pretzie, Michael Pretzie; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
