Joyce Tye Downs

Joyce Tye Downs, 85, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00, Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in the Chapel of Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street with Dr. William H. Hammonds and Rev. William D. Johnson officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus, GA at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: First Christian Church, 2306 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204.

Mrs. Downs was the widow of Frederick A. Downs, to whom she was married for sixty years. She was born in Americus to the late Martha Wall Tye and Melvin L. Tye. Mrs. Downs retired from the Georgia State Department of Health, where she was an administrator. She was a member of First Christian Church. She loved her family and enjoyed painting and drawing.

Mrs. Downs is survived by her daughter: Linn (Eric) Brazil of Shady Dale, GA; one sister: Betty T. Jones of Americus; three brothers: Leon (Barbara Ann) Tye of North Carolina, David (Elizabeth) Tye of Fairfax, VA and Donald (Cynthia ) Tye of Weatherford, TX; two grandchildren: Callie Brazil Lankford and Kalen Brazil; one great-grandson: Bryce Brazil, twin great-grandsons due in April and numerous nieces and nephews.
