Susan, got the Stratford alumni mag today and was much saddened to hear of Wayne's death. Great memories from high school. My sympathy and condolences; wish life was  broad enough for us to have kept in touch.

Our family just learned of Dr. Anderson's passing and would like to express our deepest condolences. My brother (Tim Parrish)is a liver transplant recipient  and Dr. Anderson was he primary care doctor for over 17 years. he was such a patient & kind person. He will be missed by all our family. Many were the mornings I walked from the parking deck into the building with him.  I miss those lighthearted brief conversations every morning.  He is a gentleman who will be missed by many.  My sincerest condolences to the family.

We knew him for six years.  He guided my partner, Ron Fillingham, and me, as his caregiver, through the process, the waiting period and, finally, to a new liver, in 2013.  He had the ability to make us feel like he was our friend from the very beginning.  We are privileged to have one of the Christmas CD's.  We loved him !  (And, being a purple-lover, I  enjoyed his purple socks and tie.)

I wanted to offer you my condolences. My name is Mohamed Kaif and I am one of the third year GI fellows. I have had the true pleasure of working with and learning from Dr. Anderson for the past two and a half years. I'm sure you know, but I would still like to reiterate, that we have the highest opinion of your husband as a mentor, physician, and friend. He brought the experience that we have at the VA to life. He was a unique soul, and we will carry him with us wherever our lives and careers take us. I still remember being a new first year fellow and being so scared of everything, of doing things wrong, especially with endoscopy, but in spite of the incredible disparity between his level of experience and mine, he never made me feel inferior or ignorant. Rather, as a great leader does, he set expectations for quality work in his laid-back manner, and always helped us whenever we needed it to deliver on that promise of excellence. He would let us learn by doing, something that most people don't usually have the patience for. And his knowledge, experience, and expertise made him the go to guy for so many. He really was the heart of the GI division at the VA. We miss him sorely and we will continue to feel his absence. I cannot imagine how difficult this time must be for you, but I hope that I can help you find at least some comfort in the fact that he will be not only in our prayers, but that his legacy will live in the way we interact with our patients, and with each other. He has made me a better person, and I will always be indebted to him for it.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I was an employee with Dr. Anderson at the VA Medical Center.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this grieving time.  I went all through Sunday school with Wayne at Cherokee Hts Methodist Church and will forever remember some of his crazy antics!  I also work in an Endoscopy lab in Macon so I have even more respect for him as a GI guy!

Wayne was a friend, music buddy, and regularly appeared in my week when I stopped by the mutual therapy couch at Fretted Instruments. He was kind to all, open to others, unpretentious,and a good, good man. All my sympathy to the family. I know we who counted him a friend are deeply saddened. His circle was large, indeed, and unbroken.

It's with heart felt Sympathy I wish to express my condolences to the family and friends of  Julian, may your memories with Julian bring you comfort and may God bless and sustain you. ( Psalms 55 : 22 )

Today I am sending  my condolences to Susan and Willoughby and the Anderson family and  to all my former  and his colleagues and friends at the UAB/VA community.
Only a few weeks ago I happened to talk  to him on the telephone and  I found him in very good spirits about what was coming.  Wayne and I had always stayed in touch but this time the interval had been a couple of years. The telephone call  and his death now brings back many memories. 

Wayne was truly a special colleague with a warm heart for his family, very proud of his daughter. He had also a warm heart and unconventional approaches to those with whom he worked.
His picture that accompanies his obituary reflects beautifully his kindness and a degree of relativism about the world and all that we human beings do. He touched me always with his "Hi Dutchman, so good to see you....." Friendly, interested, reporting on what was going on. In depth debates included the contents of Willoughby's thesis 

Wayne was one of the first physicians at UAB that I met and he has been supportive ever since. He took me out for dinner the evening that I was notified that my mother had died.
He was appreciative for support when he had a more difficult episode in his life.
He delivered the annual Xmas cake and I was once very priviliged to be part of the major production process: hard manual labour with great rewards!
It was fun to be in the Anderson home with many beautiful "curios".
He delivered a nightblooming cirrhus that  was subsequently cause in an annual  party at my deck.
I belonged to the priviliged ones to receive the yearly CD music recordings (I just was sent 3 as a catch up).

I am touched and saddened by his passing.
May his memory inspire us, and may it inspire Susan, Willougby and the generation to come.

I am very sorry to hear this sad news.  Dr. Anderson was not only a fine gentleman, and an accomplished gastroenterologist, but also an enthusiastic and accomplished photographer. I pray that you find comfort through Jesus Christ who said; "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." I had the privilege of working one on one with Dr. Anderson for several years in his Primary Care,  Hepatology & Liver Transplant Clinics at the B'ham VA Medical Center. He enjoyed his service to our American heroes. I will remember him as a caring physician who always had time to stop and have a personal conversation with staff. Every Christmas he graced those close to him with his home made fruit cakes, gift cards and his personally recorded family songs with him playing the guitar.  Knowing he liked the color purple, one Christmas my husband accompanied me to the mall to purchase Dr. Anderson purple socks and a purple neck tie. He wore the two together with pride, lol.

My heartfelt condolences to Dr. Anderson's family.  My name is Linda Blackmon and I worked with Dr. "A" at the Birmingham VA in the endoscopy lab.  He was what I would refer to as a "voice of reason" and a "calming influence" in what I could best describe as a somewhat chaotic setting.  The staff and his patient's loved him and will truly miss him.  The VA has lost a great one and we all mourn with his family.  I can honestly say he treated EVERY patient and staff member with the utmost respect and civility.  He never panicked and served as a wonderful mentor to both the staff and the GI fellows.  I loved his Christmas musical CDs and I will cherish mine.  Rest in peace Dr. Anderson.  God bless you.

Dr. Anderson was a fine man and a great friend. we talked often about life and music. The light he cast over so many of us will never fade and neither will his memory.
