Lois K. Foster

On July 6, 2016, Lois Keener Foster of Macon, Georgia, formerly of Gray, supported by family and compassionate nurses at Pine Point Hospice, passed gently from this world to her Heavenly home, joining her Lord Jesus Christ and many dear family and friends waiting for her there.

Mrs. Foster was born October 5, 1929, in the Rock Creek community of Toccoa, GA, to the late Fulton Keener and Isalee Crisp Keener – the “baby” of seven children. She and her siblings grew up working and playing on their country farm and learning from their precious parents about faith in the Lord and how to abide in His grace. She much preferred house work to field work and often traded chores with a sister who had opposite preferences. In fact, her love and enjoyment of house and home and family permeated her entire life. She graduated high school and attended Piedmont College in Demorest, where she met and, in 1948, married a handsome young Navy veteran Frank Foster, who predeceased her after 55 years of happy marriage. She is also predeceased by her brothers, Doyle, Jones and George Keener – and her sisters – Minnie Lou Hunter, Ola Pauline Dooley and Ella Ree Cobb.

Mrs. Foster was a talented seamstress who made all her young daughters’ clothing, as well as matching outfits for their dolls. It wasn’t until their sixth grade that she provided their first store-bought dresses. She discovered a happy, healthy balance between home-making and career, working outside the home for many years, first with the GA State Dept. of Rehabilitation and then as Secretary at Gray Elementary School. During her family’s time in Gray, she was active in her United Methodist Women’s circle and with her very special “Birthday Club” friends. She also became a “second Mom” to many teen friends of her daughters, who always felt welcome in their home, especially before Friday night football games, when they knew a pot of chili or a hobo dinner would be ready and waiting for them.

Mrs. Foster is survived by her daughters, Dale Foster (David) Harrell of Newnan, GA, and Carol Foster of Macon; grandchildren, Deborah (Philip) Davidson of Newnan, Meredith Harrell of Lawrenceville, Laura Foster of New York City and adopted grandson Josh (Ashley) Nowell of Macon; great-grandchildren, Elena Martinez and Caleb Davidson; many beloved nieces and nephews.

As remembrances, flowers are welcome, as are contributions made in her name to Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hills Road, Macon, GA 31210 or to CORRAL, 52 Oliver Potts Road, Newnan, GA 30263.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 11 at 11 a.m. at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with the Rev. Teresa Edwards, Rev. Cile Mitchell, and Rev. Diane Sweckard officiating. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Gray.
