

MACON – Margaret Lee Burton, 73, peacefully passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at Ingleside Baptist Church with Dr. Tim McCoy officiating. The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. to service time on Saturday at the church. Close friends and family are invited to a reception in the Fellowship Hall for a Celebration of Life luncheon following the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Road, Macon 31204 or to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon 31201.
Ms. Burton, daughter of the late Luther Felder Rankin, Sr. and Evelyn Brown Rankin, was born in McCormick, SC. She was a graduate of McCormick High School and was chosen as “Miss McCormick” in 1957 and competed in several other area beauty pageants. She earned her Master’s Degree and her six-year Degree in Education from the University of Georgia and retired after twenty-five years as Librarian at Joseph B. Riley Elementary School. Ms. Burton was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church since 1980 and also a member of the Moose Club on Gray Highway. She was an avid Bridge player. The love of her life was her children, grandchildren and ballroom dancing. Over the last several years, she won several local area dance contests.
She is survived by the family she adored, her children, Chad Burton (Tracy) and Lynn Burton Johnson (Hal), all of Macon; her grandchildren, Meagan Johnson of Atlanta, Tripp Johnson, Blaire, Paris and Sailor Burton, all of Macon; her brother, Luther Felder Rankin, Jr. (Doris) of Guatemala; nephews, Dax Rankin and Jesse Rankin; niece, Samantha Gonzales and good friend, Frank Garcia.
