

Margaret Davis Kenworthy, 88, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church Chapel on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Rogers Methodist Church Cemetery, Hwy 74, in Monroe County with the Rev. Chip Miller officiating.
Margaret Kenworthy is predeceased by her husband, Rev. Robert L. Kenworthy, her parents Thomas E. and Blanche Elliott Davis, and her brother, Thomas E. Davis.
She was born in Waverly Hall, Georgia. After graduating from Crawford County High School and Mercer University, she taught second grade at Joseph N. Neal School and Stratford Academy, being Stratford’s first second grade teacher. Upon completion of her master’s degree and Sixth Year Degree at UGA, she served as an administrator for 23 elementary schools in Albany, Georgia coordinating their reading and language arts programs.
At this point in her career, she served with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Mexico doing literacy work in the Masatico and Tojolobal Indian Tribes. It was in the Tojolabal Tribe she helped develop a set of primers for teaching reading in the Tojolabal language. After being accepted as a full member into the WBT, she served as an educational consultant to the Wycliffe Missionaries Children’s Education Program for a number of years.
After completing her Ed.D at the University of Tennessee, she taught at the Covenant College, Wesleyan College, Indiana Wesleyan University, Valdosta State College, The University of Georgia and the University of Tennessee. She also served as a school administrator for 10 years in the North Daviess Community School System.
During Margaret’s active career, she held membership in professional organizations such as the International Reading Association and the National Council of the Teachers of English at the local, state and national levels. She often gave presentations at local, state and national conferences on the topics of the teaching of reading, language arts and creative drama. She retained her membership in Delta Kappa Gamma and CC Railroad Educator during her retirement years.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Sunday School Class and Ladies Bible Studies. Because of her passion for missions, that all might know and receive Jesus Christ, those who desire may make a memorial contribution to First Presbyterian Church for Wycliffe Foundation for their ministries for the deaf.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Linda (Joe) Hunt of Sebring, FL, step grandsons, Greg (Jennifer) Hunt of Westfield, IN, Scott (Allison) Hunt of Marion, IN, great grandchildren, Ian, Audrey, Collin, Emily, Ashton and Kate Hunt, numerous cousins and friends.
