Margie Massey Powell was born October 1, 1931 in Worth County, Georgia, the youngest of 12 children in a farming family. John Marion Massey Sr. and Minnie Della Roberts worked hard to instill the value of faith and service in their children.
Margie graduated from Sylvester High School in 1948. Choosing to become a nurse, she left for Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, at the age of 17. She met Brooks on a blind date at a Georgia Tech party and they were married in 1952. She worked in many aspects of nursing and retired from Winship Emory Clinic.
Her service work to Lawrenceville Road UMC in the food pantry, involvement at FIR for developmentally disabled adults, and the needs of her family fit into the “love your neighbor” personality she had. Margie always put your needs above hers.
Our mom treasured her two granddaughters and thrilled at playing “dress up” and shopping for and with them. She always made homemade birthday cakes for all and excelled at “home cooking” and gardening.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 11 siblings and her husband of 71 years, R. Brooks Powell.
Margie left her legacy to children, Connie Sealy, Nancy Powell, Stephen Sengupta (Inu); granddaughters, Parker Sealy (Ang) and Erin Sealy; sister in law, Dotti Laycock; brother in law, Doug Head and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held at Westview Cemetery in the Spring, her favorite time of year. A visitation will be held Monday, February 5th from 4 until 6 PM at the residence of Connie Sealy.
Snow's Memorial Chapel, Bass Road, charge of arrangements.
