Martha Nony Britt McMichael

Martha Nony McMichael, age 101, died December 22, 2023, at Huntersville Oaks, LTC, Huntersville, NC. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m., at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry St. with Dr. William Hardee officiating. The family suggest donations be made to the Endowment Fund, Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204.

Mrs. McMichael was born on September 8, 1922 in Macon, to the late George C. and Nora E. Britt. She graduated from Miller High School in 1939, and received her B.A. degree from Mercer in 1943, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.

Mrs. McMichael loved Macon, and was very active in community organizations. She was a member of Vineville Baptist Church, the History Club of Macon, the Morning Music Club and the Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a Past President of the YWCA, Past State President of the Medical Auxiliary, and Past President of the Federated Garden Club. She also founded the Macon Chapter of MADD and served as State Chairman.

She was the widow of the late Robert S. McMichael, MD, a family physician in Macon for forty-six years. They met in 1941, and married in 1943, while Robert was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They had a wonderful, and loving marriage, for sixty-years.

She is survived by her children: Nancy (Richard) Shepard of Charlotte, NC, Curt McMichael (Ellen Edelman) of San Francisco, CA, Bobby (Diedre) McMichael of Macon, GA and Alan McMichael of Gainesville, FL, and seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
