Mary W. Gassett, 94, died Friday, January 18, 2013 in Atlanta, GA after an extended illness. She was born in Washington County, GA on July 1, 1918 to Walter and Eliza Wilson. She was predeceased by three brothers, Hyman, Fred, and Bill Wilson, one sister, Iris Yancey, husbands George T. Burgamy and Quentin W. Gassett, and daughter Connie Burgamy.
Mary was a long-time resident of Macon, GA and a devoted member of Ingleside United Methodist Church. She lived for many years at Magnolia Manor and was active in community affairs. Known for her baking and sewing skills, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia B. Owens, son-in-law Dr. Tommy L. Owens, grandchildren Gretchen O. Wichmann and her husband Christopher R. Wichmann, Gregory A. Owens and his wife Lauri A. Owens, and great grandchildren Cade and Raegan Owens.
Private graveside services will be held Monday at Macon Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 AM Monday at Ingleside United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Bennett officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ingleside United Methodist Church, 3187 Ridge Avenue, Macon, GA 31204 or Magnolia Manor, 200 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31024.
