

Mary Jane Proebstle League, 91, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 15 at Pine Pointe Hospice. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 24 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Allan J. McDonald and Rev. Tommy Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, 31210.
Mary Jane was born in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Marie Woebkenburg and Conrad Carl Proebstle. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Donald Proebstle. Mary Jane graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1941 and married Captain Joseph League in 1943 in Waco, Texas. They moved to Macon in 1946. She worked as Office Manager for Dr. Claude Pennington. Mary Jane was the Office Manager at Central Georgia Speech and Hearing Center from 1962 until 1983, and then served as Executive Director until 1998. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Mulberry United Methodist Church.
Mary Jane was a volunteer in The Georgia Heart Center and a volunteer reader in the Rolling Readers program. She was active in Macon Little Theatre from 1954 to 1962 in many leading roles as well as backstage in costuming.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Choate League, Sr.; son, Joseph Choate League, Jr.; daughters, Cheryl Dennis and Meredith Pretzie; grandchildren, Elisabeth Irwin, Mary Clare Ewing, Catherine Fruechtenicht, Caroline Campbell, Christina Pretzie, Michael Pretzie; eleven great-grandchildren, her sister, Arleen Scotti and numerous nieces and nephews.
