

Mary Esther Owens Sorrels, 90, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Middle Georgia Memory Gardens. Father Vernon Knight will officiate. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Family Advancement Memories (formerly The Nazareth Home), Attn: Sister Roberts, 570 High Place, Macon 31201.
Mrs. Sorrels was born in Hawkinsville, Georgia the daughter of the late Vera Mae Davis Owens and William Jackson Owens. She was the widow of William E. “Tug” Sorrels. Mrs. Sorrels was a graduate of Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. She worked as a librarian for Windsor Academy and the Houston County School System. During World War II, she worked at Robins Air Force Base at the Air Material Command. Mrs. Sorrels was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was confirmed on May 11, 1983.
Mrs. Sorrels is survived by her sons, William Scott (Tina) Sorrels of Alpharetta and Jerry Owens (Julie) Sorrels of Marietta; grandchildren, Lauren Amanda (Austin) Volk, Kathryn Michelle Sorrels, and Graham Sorrels.
