Surrounded by her loving family, Mary R. Terrell, 82, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Pine Pointe Hospice following a long illness. A visitation will be held at Snow’s Memorial Chapel on Saturday from 2 – 4 p.m.
Mrs. Terrell was born April 18, 1930 in Macon to parents John Lenor and Lottie Stephens Roberts. She was educated in Bibb County schools, graduating from A. L. Miller High School in the class of 1948. Shortly after, she received her certification from the Macon Hospital School and Technology and spent her entire career in that field, retiring February 1994 from the Medical Center of Central Georgia after many years in the blood bank.
Mary’s quick wit, a sometimes wicked sense of humor and fun-loving disposition made her a joy to be around. Her focus was always on her family. Nothing pleased her more than watching the cooking shows on TV or searching through her extensive collection of cookbooks hoping to find a new and tasty dish to prepare. A well equipped kitchen and a husband that liked to lend a hand at the sink meant a delicious meal for those who sat at her table. The beaches of Panama City, Florida were her favorite vacation spots and the memories of those many trips will live on in the hearts of the immediate and extended family she leaves behind. Due to her intense dislike for cameras it will be hard to prove that she was ever a part of those fun times.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her husband of sixty years, William Otis Terrell, Sr. who passed away on April 22, 2012 and her sister, Edna Roberts Rush.
Surviving her are children Elisa T. Hesselrode (Lance) of Ocean Springs, MS, William “Bill” Terrell, Jr. (Teresa) of Warner Robins, GA, Tina T. Wall (Bill) of Milledgeville, GA; grandchildren Kristie Cunningham, Dustin Harris, Brooke Harris, Connor Wall and Avery Wall; great grandchildren Kaylie Chase and Parker Cunningham; brother Harry L. Roberts (Judy Weatherford) of Centerville, GA; sister Doreen R. Harrison (Jack) of Byron, GA; sister-in-law Peggy Gilmore of Lanett, AL and many nieces and several nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the dedicated staff at Summer’s Landing in Warner Robins for their loving care and attention to Mary these last nine months, to the staff of Pine Pointe Hospice for their quiet and gentle way of caring for our loved one, and to Vann and Barbara Smedley who have been much more that neighbors for decades.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Pine Pointe Hospice and Palliative Care, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210.
