

Michael Farris Thomas, II, 51, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012 in a hospital in Jacksonville, FL while on family vacation on Amelia Island, FL. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday at Vineville United Methodist Church with Dr. Marcus Tripp officiating. The family will meet friends at the family residence on Wednesday from 6 – 8 p.m. They ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Vineville United Methodist Church, 2045 Vineville Avenue, Macon, GA 31204 or to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204. Members and their wives of the Macon Civic Club and Kappa Alpha Order are asked to sit together as a group at the funeral service.
Mike was born and raised in Hazlehurst, Georgia and graduated from Jeff Davis High School and Mercer University. He was the son of Guinelle Jones Thomas and the late Dr. Michael Farris Thomas. Mike was employed by Beasley Forest Products out of Hazlehurst, where he loved his work.
Mike was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church, Idle Hour Golf & Country Club, and a member and past president of the Macon Civic Club. One of his favorite times of the year was his annual appearance as “Mikey T” in the Macon Civic Club Show. Mike was passionate about all he did including his work and his life. He was an avid outdoorsman loving fishing, hunting, scuba diving, boating, the Boy Scouts and always included his son, Farris.
Mike was a loving husband of 28 years to his college sweetheart Amy Fulghum Thomas. Mike and Amy met at Mercer University, where he was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Order. In addition to his wife Amy, Mike is survived by his son, Michael Farris Thomas, III; his mother, Guinelle Jones Thomas of Hazlehurst; his sister, Marla-Deen Thomas Brooks of Atlanta and her husband, Stephen; loving nephews, Deen, Smith, and John Thomas.
