Naomi Walker Hagan

When she was 2 years old, the Walker family moved from Memphis to Spartanburg, S.C. While living in Spartanburg, her mother became seriously ill and she took on the role of taking care of the house and her younger sisters. This formed a special bond between her, Pat and Diane that lasted a lifetime. The church crowd relocated to Columbia, S.C. and in June 1950, the Walker family followed. During a weekend trip with the church, in September 1950, she dedicated her life to the Lord becoming a sanctified young lady. That commitment carried her through the rest of her life. It was also in Columbia that she met the love of her life, Floyd L. Hagan, Sr., and they were married on October 23, 1954. Their commitment to God first and each other second led to a marriage that lasted for 63 ½ years, until his passing on March 22, 2017. Upon their marriage, they settled in Charleston, S.C. where they were very active in the local church and raised their three children. In 1979, they moved to Raleigh, N.C. where they continued to be very active in the church and strengthened their bonds of fellowship within the Raleigh crowd. In 2012, due to failing health of Floyd and Naomi, they moved to Perry, GA and became residents of the Church Home. Her family would like to thank the Church Home for the exemplary love and care that she received over the past 10 ½ years. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the extra care and love given to Mrs. Hagan.

Proverbs 31 describes the characteristics of a Godly woman. Momma was always the person behind the scenes making sure things happened without a hitch. She was a homeroom mother, organizing school carnivals, school field trips and school parties. She was a Sunday School teacher, primarily for the younger children. She would open her house for guests, especially during feastmeetings. At one feastmeeting in Charleston, she hosted over 60 people for a weekend. She was a wonderful provider, cooking for the church and family gatherings. She made costumes for her children, one of the most memorable being homemade costumes for the tricentennial of Charleston in 1970 and again for the bicentennial of the United States in 1976. She opened her house for several people to live in through the years, becoming like a second mother to many. She would make sure her husband was well cared for. The list of things she did could go on and on, she was truly the definition of “The Virtuous Woman”. She never wanted or desired to be in the limelight or to be recognized for the things she did. In fact, she would shy away from any of that. As a family, we can say that we “can fly higher than an eagle, for she was the wind beneath our wings”. Momma you are truly our hero. You will be greatly missed.

Naomi is survived by her daughter, Anita Copeland (Glenn) of Perry Ga.; son, Kenneth W. Hagan (Anna) of Raleigh, NC.; grandchildren, David Copeland (Amy), Diana Bryant (Justin), Ashton Haskins (Jake), Stephen Copeland (Sarah), Daniel Hagan and Christiana Hagan; great-grandchildren, Claire, Samuel, James, Brody, Lydia, Charlotte, Everleigh, Sadie, Abby and Aiden; sisters, Patricia Arceneaux (Paul) and Diane Cease (Carroll); and other family and friends.

Naomi is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd L. Hagan, Sr.; son, Floyd L. Hagan, Jr.; brothers, Harvey Walker, Jr., Richard Walker and Charles Walker; and sisters, Ophelia Ballantine and Frances Walker.

Naomi’s family will receive friends Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground, 2500 N. Hwy 41, Fort Valley, GA 31030. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Campground with interment to follow at the church cemetery.
