

MACON – Patricia F. Walden, 80, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Pine Pointe after a brief illness. A Vigil service will be held at 6 pm Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Macon. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 30, at 2 pm at St. Joseph. Burial will be private in Riverside Cemetery. Father Allan McDonald will officiate.
Patricia Ann Farrell was born in Brunswick, Georgia on Jan. 12, 1932, to Walter Joseph Farrell and Mary Farrell Simmons. She grew up on Sea Island, GA, attended Catholic boarding school in St. Augustine, FL, graduated high school from Brenau Academy and attended Brenau College, both in Gainesville, GA.
In April 1952, she married Roy Benjamin Walden, Jr., of Macon. They lived briefly in Athens, GA while Mr. Walden attended UGA, and in Fort Knox, TN where he served in the US Army and then settled in Macon in 1956.
Mrs. Walden was predeceased by her parents, husband, son in law, Charles Dennison “Denny” Mays, and grandson, Charles Walden “Clyde” Mays. She is survived by daughter Hope Walden Mays of Roswell, GA, daughter Audrey W. (Fielding) Gurley, and son, Roy B. “Trip” (Ann) Walden, both of Macon, grandchildren Tate (Nikki) Smith of Canton, GA, Katie Walden, Ashley G. (Wesley) Wood, and Roy B. “Ben” Walden, IV, Shana (Chris) Yaughn, all of Macon, and two great grandchildren, Parker Tate Smith and Cayden Grace Yaughn. She is also survived by several cousins and her loving sister in law, Mrs. Janet LaMountt.
Mrs. Walden volunteered in her children’s schools, activities and sports, in Macon’s Cherry Blossom Festival, the annual Salvation Army geranium sale, Easter Seals Drive and Family Advancement Ministries at St. Joseph’s. A founding member of Macon’s Suburban Garden Club, Mrs. Walden frequently organized reunions with members and other friends at Fripp Island, SC and St. Simons Island, GA. She was an active alumna of Alpha Gamma Delta; a scholarship was established in her name in at Mercer University, where she inspired and mentored individuals from the chapter for many years.
Mrs. Walden taught private swimming and tennis lessons in Macon before she started working with Mr. Walden at Hayes Clothing Co. She spent several years at the House of Textiles and retired from the Kroger Co.
Mrs. Walden was a devoted member of St Joseph’s for the last 16 years. She administered communion to residents at Bolingbroke Senior Care Home, sponsored new members’ confirmations and led a weekly women’s Bible study.
