A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Ingleside Baptist Church, with Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. A private burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery.
Chris was born on July 19, 1949, in Dalton, to the late Ralph Henderson Smith and Eunice Harden Smith. He dedicated 60 years to a career in banking, retiring as Senior Vice President of Operations at State Bank in Macon.
Chris had a wonderful sense of humor and a special way of making those around him laugh. He loved the outdoors and was happiest when he had something to work on. Whether he was tinkering with a project, fixing something that was broken, or working in the yard, he always enjoyed staying busy. He loved his Georgia Bulldogs and never missed a chance to cheer on the Dawgs. His playful spirit, knack for figuring things out, and one of a kind personality were just a few of the things that made him so special.
Above all, Chris loved his family. He shared 57 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Pam, and took great pride in the family they built together. Some of his happiest moments were spent camping with family, enjoying trips to the beach, and gathering for family celebrations. He treasured these times together, whether it was a special occasion or simply being surrounded by the people he loved most. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, great grandfather and brother, who leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories.
Chris attended Ingleside Baptist Church, and his family finds peace and comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Pam; his children, Gary (Tammy) of Gray, Lee (Meissy) of Atlanta, and Brooks Jones (Ben) of St. Simons Island; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; and his sisters, Laura Palmer (Craig) and Pam Tanner (Walt); several nieces and nephews; and his Dalton family who were very special to him.
Chris will be deeply missed, but the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the memories made together will always hold a special place in the hearts of his family and friends.
