LTC Richard L. Michie, USA, Ret., 75, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at a local hospital after living with Multiple Sclerosis for more than forty-six years. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2014 at Ingleside Baptist Church with burial and military honors at 2:30 p.m. in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville. The Rev. Mark Hudgins, the Rev. Joe McDaniel, and the Rev. Alan Isted will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue. LTC Michie, son of the late Clarence Robert Michie and Thora Maxine Veirs Michie, was born in Sterling, CO. Serving with the U. S. Army in Germany and during the Vietnam War, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Army of Occupation Medal-Berlin, Army Commendation Medal 1st OLC, Vietnam Service Medal, RVN Campaign Medal W/60 Device, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, 1st OLC and 2 O/S Bars. He also earned the RVN Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation and the Joint Service Commendation Medal before his retirement in 1979.
LTC Michie was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church and was formerly a member of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church where he sang in the Choir for more than twenty years. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Macon and served as First Administrator for Covenant Academy. He loved all things outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His three granddaughters were a source of great joy to him.
Survivors include his wife Carol P. Michie; two children, Adam R. (Jessie) Michie and Mandi Michie; three grandchildren, Carolina Rose, Haylee Brooke and Jessa Elizabeth Michie, all of Macon; his sister, Barbara Michie of Denver, CO and several nieces and nephews.
