Robert H. Beckworth, Sr.

Robert H. Beckworth, Sr., 78, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at a local hospital. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue with burial and Military Honors in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Ed Chambless will officiate. The family will meet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warriors, P. O. Mr. Beckworth was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Faye Stone Beckworth and his son, Keith Beckworth. Born in Baxley, he was the son of the late Uriah and Elneita Horton Beckworth. Mr. Beckworth was retired from Armstrong World Industries after thirty years. He served with the U. S. Army Air Force for ten years serving three years with the 521st HAM in Germany during the Cold War, seven years with the 82nd Air Borne Division serving as a Jump Master for six of those years. Mr. Beckworth was a life time member of the 82nd Air Borne Association and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Rutland Lodge No. 298, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and Al Sihah Shrine Temple. He had been a member of Mikado Baptist Church since 1988. Mr. Beckworth was preceded in death by his brother, Hartley Beckworth and by his sisters, Dora Dukes and Virginia Beckworth Beasley Ford.

Survivors include the family he treasured, his son, Robert Beckworth, Jr. of Macon; his daughters, Wendy (Douglas) McDowell of Warner Robins and Linda (Kurt) Lienbacker of Austria; his beloved grandchildren, Mathew Beardsley, Reese Beckworth, Brandy Cowan, Andrew McDowell, Taylor McDowell, Tiffany McDowell Lewis, Tara McDowell Nobles, Sandra Breinlinger and Patrick Lienbacker; five great grandchildren; his brother, James M. Beckworth of Columbia, SC; his sister, Olivia Artz of Pompano Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Gerta Beckworth of Germany and several nieces and nephews.
