
Russell L.(Smokedoctor) Ford, 66, passed away Wednesday April 23. Russ, the son of Dr. Leo and Irene Ford, grew up in Memphis, Tn. He graduated from the University of Albuquerque and continued his education at the University of Tenn. He was an Air Force veteran and retired Chemistry and Physics teacher. He was a Mason, past Master of Houston 35 and a member of the York Rite. Russ was an avid hunter and used his talent for smoking BBQ for fundraising to benefit the Boy Scouts, Demolay, Rainbow Girls among others.
Russ will be missed by his wife of 38 years, Jonanne, his 4 sons, David (Jenny) Ford, Wesley (Michele) Ford, Adam (Betsy) Ford, and Ryan (Theresa) Ford, and 7 beloved grandchildren, Peyton, Sarah, Shelby Lowe, Jon Wright, Beckett Ford, Emily Ford and Alyssa Ford. He, also leaves a brother, Kenny (Nikki) Ford, sisters, Janet Brewer, Caroline Gallagher and Brenda (Billy) Hyden, his mother-in-law, Louise Taylor and faithful companions, Pete and Pixie and a host of special friends.
Russell was blessed on Nov. 11, 1996 with a heart transplant and while he never knew the donor, we would like to acknowledge the impact that this gift of life gave to our family. It was his wish that all would consider signing an organ donation card or joining the bone marrow registry. We will celebrate Russell’s life at the Prayer Garden of Houston Lake Baptist Church, Perry, GA on Saturday, April 26th at 4PM and there will be a meal following in the Fellowship Hall. Dress casually.
