Ruth Hardeman

MACON – Ruth Hardeman, 104, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Vineville Baptist Church with private burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. Ron Holland and Dr. Tripp Martin will officiate. The family will greet friends from 5:30 until 7 PM Tuesday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Wesleyan College or the Mercer University School of Medicine.

Mrs. Hardeman was born in 1907 in Macon and was the daughter of the late William L. and Mary S. Ross. She was the oldest member of Vineville Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 40 plus years. Mrs. Hardeman was the widow of William Gardiner Hardeman, whom she married at Martha Bowman Methodist Church in January, 1926.

Mrs. Hardeman lived a long and happy life and in “Reflections” on her life that she wrote in the year 2000, she spoke of evenings she and her 3 sisters spent as young children listening to their elders speak of “adult matters” – World War I, current events and the like and heard their distressing conversations one April long ago as news spread that the “unsinkable” Titanic had gone down in the North Atlantic.

As many of you know, Mrs. Hardeman had a long red sweater she carried around with her every day in her senior years. All of her friends and those at John-Wesley Villas need to know that her beloved red sweater will be buried with her.

Mrs. Hardeman is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Ken) Schubring of Dunwoody, GA, Juliana (Bill) Caldwell of Cape Coral, FL, Patricia Hardeman of Macon; six grandchildren, Betsy Crossley, Kenneth Schubring, Jr., William Hardeman Schubring, Virginia Caldwell Musser, Colleen Caldwell Cohen and Dana Hardeman Lewis; six great-grandchildren.
