Mrs. Sara Spencer Ham passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 24, 2018, after a brief illness. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery with Rev. Hunter Stevenson officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
Sara was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. “Neal” Ham. She was born on January 20, 1932 in Oceana, Virginia to Manlove Causey and Marie Evans Spencer. Sara attended public schools in Sumter, South Carolina and received a nursing degree from the Tuomey Hospital School of Nursing.
Sara was a long time resident of Macon and was retired from Coliseum Park Hospital. She was formerly a member of Vineville Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women of the Church ministry and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Most recently she was a member of North Macon Presbyterian Church. Sara had been active in the Salvation Army Auxiliary and had been a resident of Carlyle Place since 2004.
Sara is survived by her children Cornealia Ham Patton and husband Bob of St. Simons, Dr. Robert C. “Neal” Ham, Jr. and wife Willa of Macon, and Marie Ham Moore and husband Eddie of Forsyth and seven grandchildren Rob Patton and wife Rachel of Peachtree Corners, Alexis Patton Chapman and husband Hunter of Columbus, Sara Elise Ham and Rachel Ham of Atlanta, William Ham of Macon, and Spencer and Trippe Moore of Forsyth. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Mrs. Dot Spencer of Sumter, South Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
Sara will forever be remembered for serving and caring for others, for being a wonderful mother and grandmother, and for living a life of faith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Building Fund of North Macon Presbyterian Church, 5707 Rivoli Drive, Macon, GA 31210.
