Shirley Joseph Adams, III, 75, passed away at home, on Saturday, January 15, 2011. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Snow’s Pio Nono. Burial will be in Avondale Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Houston Berry officiating. Those serving as pallbearers are, Jimmy Colquitt, Joey Colquitt, John Colquitt, Matthew Carpenter, Taylor Fordham, Brad Kitchens and Thomas Blake Morton.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel Pio Nono or may be contacted at the residence of Boyce and Christy Herndon, 6151 Skipperton Road, Macon GA 31216. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Avondale Baptist Church, Building Fund, 6970 Cochran Field Road, Macon GA 31216.
Mr. Adams was born in Bibb, County to the late Shirley Joseph Adams, Jr. and Edythe Anderson Adams. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Inman. He was a lifelong member of Avondale Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the NRA. Mr. Adams retired after thirty two years service as a conductor with Southern Railroad.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jean Strong Adams of Macon, four daughters, Jan (Dale) Colquitt of Eatonton, Deby (Rob) Morton of Zebulon, Barbara (Alan) McKnight of Duluth, Della Kitchens of Macon, two step-sons, Boyce (Christy) Herndon of Macon, and William (Brooke) Herndon of Macon, fourteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two nieces and two nephews.
