Stephen Edward Sturek Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen E. and Stella Sturek, two of his brothers, Richard and Robert, his wife, Carol Rossiter, and his daughter, Jenifer Sturek. He is survived by his son, Jay Sturek, his grandchildren Stephen, Michael, William and Luna, his stepsons, Sonny and Guy Albers, his step-grandchildren, Carolanne, Claire and Righteous, his brothers Cliff (Dottie) and Joe (Sharon) Sturek and his sisters Mary Ann Sturek and Marge (Steve) Harman.

Steve was an outstanding athlete, lettering in football, basketball, baseball and track while attending high school at Creighton Prep in Omaha, NE. He then earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University where he played end on one of the last single wing college football teams, which became known as the "Dirty Thirty."

He then earned his law degree at Creighton University. Steve was a defense attorney in Omaha and later was a prosecuting attorney in Sarpy County, NE before moving to Georgia where he earned his master’s degree in Sports Management. He became a "rules enforcer" for the Transatlantic Sun Southern Conference for 20 years.

Steve and his wife of 47 years, Carol, traveled extensively throughout all parts of the world before and after retirement. After retirement, he continued to enjoy watching college football and baseball games on TV.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at 2pm in the Snow’s Memorial Chapel in Macon. Visitation will be from 1pm until the service time at the funeral home. Another service will be planned at a later date in Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Iowa State University Foundation in Steve’s name.
