

Macon- Steve Albert Land, 54, passed away Wednesday, august 24, 2011 after an extended illness. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, August 27, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Allan McDonald officiating. A Rosary will be said at 7:00PM Friday and the family will greet friends following the Rosary at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. A memorial service will be also held at 2:00PM on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at his family’s home church Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Cottonton, Alabama (Hwy 165). The Family request in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to : The American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201, Hospice of Central Georgia, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31210 and The Get Kids Fishing Foundation, 3025 Victoria Park, Buford, Georgia 30519.
Mr. Land was born in Columbus, Georgia to the late Mary Alice Calhoun Land and Wesley Miller Land, Jr. He was a graduate of Eufala High School and Auburn University. He was employed by GA Fence Wholesale for 27 years. He had served as Fire Chief of the Cottonton Volunteer Fire Department in his hometown of Cottonton, Alabama. He served on the Board of Directors at Agape Village in Macon. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a volunteer in Habitat for Humanity. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He enjoyed being in the outdoors and hunting and fishing with his family. He had a love for Horticulture and was past president of the American Hemerocallis Society. He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Mr. Land is survived by his loving wife of 27 years: Cecilia Short Land of Macon; two sons: Benjamin Joseph Land and Michael Jacob Land; two brothers: Joe Wesley Land and Dan Henry (Tracey) Land; several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a grand nephew.
