Susan was born in Macon, Georgia, on February 18, 1953, as the first child of Susanne Aultman and James Hollis “Jim” Dorsey. Over the next eight years, she became the big sister to a brother and two sisters. Highlights of her childhood included studying ballet and riding horses at her grandparents’ farm. She excelled academically, particularly in chemistry, and graduated from Stratford Academy in 1971. After three years at the University of Georgia, she was admitted to the Medical College of Georgia and received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1978.
In June of 1977, she married her high school sweetheart and best friend Wayne Anderson. Together they continued to pursue specialization in medicine, with Susan becoming a radiologist and Wayne becoming a gastroenterologist. Their daughter Willoughby was born in 1978. The family of three settled in Birmingham, Alabama, after stints in the West Indies and Tennessee. During vacations, Susan and Wayne enjoyed sharing travels of the world with their daughter.
When Wayne passed away in 2016, Susan’s world changed dramatically. A granddaughter Julia was born that following summer. Unfortunately, Susan’s memory loss accelerated during this time. She moved to Nashville to be closer to her sisters and late mother. Recently, she experienced a sudden decline in her physical condition and died within a matter of weeks.
Those left to grieve her passing are her daughter Susan Willoughby Anderson, son-in-law Michelangelo D’Agostino and beloved granddaughter Julia D’Agostino. Others left to mourn include her brother J. Dorsey, sisters Dean Hoskins and Holly Meidl, brother-in-law Chris Meidl, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and cousins. She will also be missed by Wayne’s sister Diane Lewis and brother Ronnie Anderson, brother-in-law Russell Lewis, sister-in-law Joan Anderson, niece, nephews, grandniece, grandnephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will occur on Tuesday, June23, 2026 at Riverside Cemetery North Gate at 10 am. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Lynn Skene will officiate.
Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Bass Road, is in charge of arrangements.
