Sylvia Cleveland Brooks, 78, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Pine Pointe Hospice. Visitation will be held at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, 3077 Pio Nono Avenue on Wednesday from 7 – 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono with the Rev. Timothy Peavy officiating. Burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sylvia Brooks’ name to Faith Baptist Church, 4704 Jeffersonville Road, Macon, GA 31217.
Mrs. Brooks was born April 14, 1934 in Macon, GA. She is the daughter of J. W. Cleveland and Nannie Mae Cleveland. Mrs. Brooks is survived by two sons, Mike (Cheryl) Brooks of Dublin, GA and Chris (Harriett) Brooks of Macon, GA; sisters, Frances Sims of Macon, GA, Shirley Boughton of Anchorage, AK; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her beloved Boston Terrier, Misty. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carles Hunt Brooks, a sister, Elizabeth Hodges Clements and a brother, Clifford Cleveland.
Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker and business owner. She and her husband owned and operated Brooks Pharmacy for many years. Mrs. Brooks also owned and operated several convenience stores. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Macon. She spent many happy hours fishing with family and friends in her spare time.
