MACON – Virginia Kendall Preston, 91, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. John Irwin will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Wednesday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Washington Memorial Library Genealogy Department, 1180 Washington Avenue, Macon, GA 31201.
Mrs. Preston, wife of the late Gen. James E. Preston, Jr., was a lifelong resident of Macon and was the daughter of the late John Brewer Kendall and Mattie Ave Childs Kendall. She was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church. Mrs. Preston was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. She was also a member of Colarparchee Garden Club, Howard Community Club and the Macon Exchangettes. Mrs. Preston was an avid doll collector and enjoyed genealogy research.
Survivors include her sons, Ed Preston of Roswell and Ken Preston of Macon; her daughter, Nancy Townsend of Byron; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
