Walter E. Leggett, Jr., 61, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013. Memorial services and a celebration of his life will be held at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday at North Macon Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Hunter Stevenson officiating. Members of the Bar Association and members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department are asked to sit as an honorary group at the service. The family will meet friends following the service. They suggest that those who wish make memorial contributions to North Macon Presbyterian Church Missions, 5707 Rivoli Drive, Macon, GA 31210.
Mr. Leggett, a native of Savannah, grew up in Macon and was a graduate of Lanier High School, the University of Georgia and University of Georgia Law School. He was a noted Macon attorney and was a member of the Macon Bar Association and Georgia State Bar Association. Mr. Leggett was a member of North Macon Presbyterian Church where he was the teacher of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He served as a Captain with the Army National Guard. Mr. Leggett was preceded in death by his father, Walter E. Leggett, Sr.
He was a loving husband and father and is survived by his devoted family, his wife, Mary Jane Leggett of Macon; his sons, Sam (Monica) Leggett of Jackson, GA and Joey Leggett of Macon; his daughter, Sarah (Tyler) Ver Steeg of Macon; his grandchildren, Katelyn and Tucker Ver Steeg; his mother, Binky Russell Leggett of Macon; his brothers, Mark (Kris) Leggett of Braselton, GA and the Rev. Tim (Liz) Leggett of Naugatuck, CT and several nieces and nephews.
