Willard Trew Fones, 84, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Dale Memorial Park, Chesterfield, VA. The family will greet friends on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 5962 Zebulon Road, PMB 359, Macon, GA 31210.
Willard was born in Oak Grove, VA to the late Willard Clyde and Mary Elizabeth Trew Fones. He grew up in Washington DC and graduated from Eastern High School and Benjamin Franklin University in Washington. Willard served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 with one year tour in Japan. He married Carolyn L. Gardiner on September 24, 1955 in Washington and lived in Arlington and Falls Church, VA from 1955 to 1977, when he was transferred to Macon with GEICO as Assistant Vice President for Claims retiring in 1992. While working with GEICO he attended Mercer University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1991. Willard was of the Baptist faith and was active in civic affairs, including Rotary and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn L. Fones of Macon, children, Sherrie (Dick) Fulcher of Chesterfield, VA, Craig B. Fones of Macon, grandchildren, Eric B. Fulcher of Richmond, VA and Lauren E. (Clay) Hearn of Greer, SC.
