William Andrew McKenna (Duck) Hatcher, 72, died peacefully on February 4, 2022 after a sudden illness. Duck was born in Macon, Ga. to Fredrick Edward and Agnes McKenna Hatcher on October 22, 1949. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and also an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Milledgeville.
Duck was a character - fun, witty, occasionally an argumentative character but a treasured friend to many. He enjoyed golf, fishing and boating but mostly gathering with family and friends at his home on Lake Sinclair. Crowds gathered from miles around to view Duck’s annual 4th of July fireworks extravaganza. There was no one like Duck and there will never be another in our lifetime.
Duck attended St. Joseph Catholic School and was a graduate of Mt. de Sales Academy. He was one of the first members elected to the MDS Sports Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Georgia on a baseball scholarship and graduated in 1971. Following graduation, Duck worked for the Macon and Milledgeville Recreation Departments and proudly served in the National Guard. In 1973, he married his high school sweetheart, Jody Moran and they were together for 49 years. During that time Duck co- owned Hines Sporting Goods Store in Milledgeville. He later went into the automotive business, where he remained until retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Mary Ann Hammonds and her husband Joe, Fred Hatcher and Jean Turner. He is survived by his wife Jody Moran Hatcher, his siblings Edgar Hatcher and Ricky Hatcher (Lynn), brothers –in-Law Eddie Turner and Joe Moran (Cindy), sisters-in-Law Elaine Hatcher, Maggie Moran Hurd (Frank), Sally Moran Hoge (Arnold) and seventeen nieces and nephews. As a proud member of the Hatcher/McKenna /Garvin family, he is also survived by countless number of great nieces, nephews and cousins.
