

MACON – William J. (Bill) Boyd, 74, passed away on Tuesday, March 09, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. It was Bill’s request that everyone attending his service wear bright colors. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. The family will meet friends following the service at the funeral home and at the residence of Joe and Amy Boyd, 306 Broadleaf Court, Macon 31210. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Central Georgia, 3780 Eisenhower Parkway, Macon GA 31206 for the “Sitter Fund.” The family wishes to express their special thanks to Jenny Bonds and the Hospice family.
Bill was an “Okie” from Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. Boyd and Frances Gabbard Boyd along with several brothers and sisters. He was retired from the United States Marine Corps after twenty years of service and was employed at the Macon Telegraph from 1973 to his retirement in 1998. Bill was also the author of six books.
“Ol Boyd” touched thousands of lives in his lifetime. His love for people radiated through the columns he wrote about them.
He is survived by those he loved most, his wife of forty-three years, Marvalene Boyd of Macon; his son, Joe Boyd (Amy) of Macon; his daughter, Wanda Stutzman (Owen) of Montezuma; foster-son; Bobby Adams (Dorinda) of Cleveland, OH; his grandchildren who were the brightest spots in his life, Josh and Hayes Boyd of Macon, Matthias, Isaiah and Isabella Stutzman of Montezuma, GA, Chris and Zack Adams of Cleveland, OH; his sister, Wilma Garcia of Salinas, CA and many nieces and nephews.
