IN THE CARE OF
Snow’s Memorial Chapel
William Crawford Dodson, “Will” was born on November 5, 1976 and died January 23, 2023 in Macon, Georgia. Growing up, Will delighted in romping through his childhood neighborhood of Shirley Hills with his friends and siblings. He attended Stratford Academy and graduated from First Presbyterian Day School where his love for sports led him to play golf and basketball for FPD. After graduation Will attended Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland and Athens, GA and Macon University. Throughout his life, Will always enjoyed a game of pick up basketball or jamming to great music like Widespread Panic and Tedeschi Trucks. After college Will moved back to Macon and started Dodson Landscapes & Irrigation where though hard work, his mechanical brain and a green thumb developed a thriving business in and around Macon. Will met and married his best friend and love of his life, Stephanie Newsom. They remained best friends and enjoyed co-parenting their child Katelyn.
Will was an avid golfer and former member of the Brickyard Country Club, YMCA, and Martha Bowman United Methodist Church. In addition to golf, Will loved watching his lovely young daughter, Katelyn, follow in his footsteps at FPD on the basketball court or traveling with her to Disney World or Wild Adventures. Will loved Krispy Kreme doughnuts and the sound of the strike of the first ball at the Masters. He loved a good storm. His latest adventure was with his sister Kate and daughter Katelyn and niece Sara Carr watching the Atlanta Hawks win at home. Whether in Macon or at the beach at Tybee or the North Carolina mountains, Will felt at home and at peace in the great outdoors. He will always be remembered as a gentle giant with a keen intellect and sharp wit.
Will is predeceased by his fraternal grandparents; Mr. & Mrs. William Adolphus Dodson of Americus, GA, and maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Crawford Long Pilcher of Warrenton, GA and his uncle, Rhett Lloyd Moody, Jr. He is survived by his former wife, Stephanie Newsom Dodson, their beautiful daughter Katelyn, his loving parents Katherine and Carr Dodson, his sisters, Mary Christy Macdonald and Kate Strain (Criss) both of Savannah, his brother Carr Jr. of Macon, and their children, Isabelle Macdonald, John Ryan Macdonald, Lori Kate Macdonald, Chesley Strain, Carson Dodson Morris, Charles Strain, and Sara Carr Macdonald. He is also survived by his loving aunt Suzanne Moody and cousins Rhett Moody, III (Abigail) Lila, Betsy, and Sally; Anna Katherine Cazalet (Ryan) Ellie.
There will be a service celebrating his life at 2:30 pm Saturday, January 28th at Martha Bowman UMC and a reception and visitation immediately following at 4 pm at the home of his parents in Shirley Hills. Rev. Mark Magoni and Rev. Chip Miller will officiate. Burial will be private in Americus, Georgia in Oak Grove Cemetery.
