

William Maxwell Gibson, 72, died Monday, September 24th 2012. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm Friday at Vineville United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held at 1:15 pm in the Christian Life Center of the church prior to the service. Dr. Marcus Tripp and Dr. William W. Oliver will officiate. Billy was born in Atlanta, the son of the late Elizabeth Pittard Gibson and Emmitt “Hoot” Harris Gibson. Billy has been a member of Vineville United Methodist Church since 1963 and has served on the administrative Board and the Finance Committee. He was a member of the Allen Sanders Sunday School Class.
Billy graduated from Richmond Academy in Augusta, Georgia in 1958. He received a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Georgia in 1962. He was a chemist at Robins Air Force Base prior to joining Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1963. He attained the Chartered Life Underwriters designation in 1970 and the Chartered Financial Consultation designation in 1982. He was a Million Dollar Round Table Life and Qualifying Member. Billy attained Mass Mutual Master’s Club (top 10 agents in the Company) in 1993. He was a member of Mass Mutual Agent’s Association Executive Committee from 1972 until 1988, and was president in 1987 and 1988.
Billy was an avid golfer throughout his life. Though he had many golf accomplishments, some of which he was most proud include: wining the state championship while being a member of the Richmond Academy golf team, being awarded a golf scholarship to the University of Georgia, where he was a member of two S.E.C. Championship Teams (1961 and 1962), winning the Peach Blossom Invitational and winning the Macon-Middle Georgia Golf Tournament in 4 different decades (1958-1987.)
He is survived by his wife, Bonny Denton Gibson; three daughters, Lyn Kitz (Mike), Caroline Meek (John) and Katie Parel (Rob); six grandchildren, Carson, Sally and Gibson Meek and Anna Kathryn, Ashley and Jack Parel; two brothers and their wives, Dan Gibson (Barbara) and Jack Gibson (Debbie).
