Charles or ‘Charlie’ was born on July 14th, 1925, in Glasgow, Scotland in the district of Govan to George and Effie Dry. The Drys immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in 1927, where Charlie and his younger brother David grew up.

At age 17, Charlie enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and earned his pilots wings just as WWII was coming to an end. Following the war, he attended McGill University in Montreal, Canada, earning a degree in architecture in 1952. Charlie worked as an architect in New York City for a number of years, but spent the majority of his career working for IBM in the Real Estate and Construction Division in Armonk, NY. Charlie married Margaret or ‘Irva’ Hamill in 1954 and stayed devoted to her until her passing in 2012. Over the years, they lived in Long Island, NY (where Cheryl and Douglas were born); Pound Ridge, NY; New Milford, CT; before eventually retiring to Stuart, Fl. In 2017, he moved to Elim Park to be close to his son and grandchildren.

Charlie was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. His early faith roots were in the Salvation Army. He and his family were active members in various protestant, evangelical churches throughout his life. Now, ‘absent from the body is present with the Lord.’ A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15th, 10:30 am, at Elim Park, 140 Cook Hill Rd., Cheshire, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to “Moody Radio” in Chicago.

Charles was a much loved member of our community here at Elim Park in Cheshire, CT. He was a faithful attendee at our weekly worship services, and he was a constant encouragement to those of us, who serve as chaplains. We shall greatly miss Charles, even as we thank God for his long life.
