

Born in Portland, ME, David was the middle child of four brothers and five sisters. He received three Purple Hearts while service with the 25th Infantry Division, “Tropic Lightning” in the Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive. His brother, Robert, served at the same time and they were together awarded Quilts of Valor in 2016 for their service and sacrifice.
David resided in Madison, CT for most of his adult life. He held a variety of jobs over the years, including working as a painter with his father.
David loved all sports. He was an avid fan of UConn Huskies women's basketball and a lifelong supporter of HIS Boston Red Sox. After many years, he was able to celebrate the Sox’ World Series wins- despite his wife reminding him that HER Yankees had won more. He also played slow pitch softball for many years.
David took great joy and put special care into his roles of husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and great uncle. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Candice Johnson Guerette, his daughter Nicole Guerette Rosa (Shawn), his son David Guerette (Allison), and his granddaughters, Lexi, Vivian, and Eva Guerette. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry, Roger, Robert, and Paul Guerette, and his sisters, Nancy Lakin-Dostie, Kathy King, and Anita Belcher. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Effie Guerette, his sisters, Florence Beck and Jean Morris, and his nephews, Randall Guerette and Matthew Bogue.
David was a life member of VFW Post 2096 in Madison, as well as a member of American Legion Post 66 in Clinton, CT. He enjoyed spending time with other members at the posts, as well as with the many friends who enjoyed breakfast beside him and his brother at Nick’s Place most Saturday mornings.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 4 from 4:30 until 7pm at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd, Madison, CT. A celebration of life with full military honors will be held on Saturday, April 5 at 1pm, at the First Congregational Church of Madison, 26 Meeting House Ln (on the town green). A Burial will take places on a later date.
