He was born in Far Rockaway, NY, the son of James Higgins and Cecelia Coles Higgins.
After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he attended Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn NY. Thereafter he worked as a Commercial Artist while living on Long Island with his family. His hobbies included reading, following college football (Go Fighting Irish) and painting.
Mr. Higgins was the widower of Irene M. (Tracy) Higgins.
He is survived by his daughters Dr. Susan Higgins (Lise L. Zucchero) of Clinton, CT, and Patricia Patterson (Patrick) of Buffalo, NY; grandchildren Liam, Connor, and Emma Patterson.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 5th from 1-3pm at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison. A funeral service will begin at 3pm at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 6th at 1pm at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.
