Ed was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Edward Perrella and Martha Soderberg Perrella and grew up on Long Island, NY. He attended Queens College, Flushing, NY and the New York Institute of Finance. He was in the US Air Force 4 years during the Korean War and the Air National Guard in 1974-1975. Ed was in the food business and became director of retail operations for a major food broker in Great Neck, NY.
Ed lived most of his life in Queens and Northport, NY, moving to Madison, CT on retirement in 1992, where he was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Madison, the Over Sixty Men’s Club, and the Racquet Club. He was a member of the American Legion Griswold Post #79, becoming Commander in 1999. He loved tennis, cross country skiing, walking and traveling, but his greatest joy came from his family.
Ed leaves behind his devoted wife of 68 years, Dorothy Wichmann Perrella, their daughter Ellen Perrella of S. Hadley, MA, their sons Edward Perrella and his wife Lisa of Commack, NY, and Paul Perrella and his wife Melissa of Los Angeles, CA. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Kim Rossi and husband Joseph, Karen Perrella, Lily and Dan Perrella Lewellen, and Saelee and Ryan Perrella, and one great grandchild Luca Rossi.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 30, from 4-7pm, at Swan Funeral Home, located at 825 Boston Post Rd, Madison, CT. A funeral service will be held the following day, Friday, July 31, at 10am, at The Lutheran Church of Madison, located at 9 Britton Ln, Madison, CT. A graveside service with military honors will take place immediately following the funeral service at West Cemetery, located on Boston Post Rd, Madison, CT.
