She was born on July 23, 1925, in Montclair, NJ, the daughter of Carlton W. and Charlotte (Boyd) Cox.
She was the widow of H. Marshall Soars, Jr. and lived in Muncy PA in the early years of her marriage where they raised their two sons. While in the Muncy area, Betty was a member of the Muncy bridge club, The Williamsport Country Club, the Williamsport Junior League, a volunteer at the Williamsport and Muncy hospitals, and attended the Muncy Baptist Church with her family members.
Betty was a member of the Madison Country Club, Beach Club, Winter Club and Garden Club. Betty’s family were longtime summer residents of Madison, first staying at the Madison Beach hotel in the 1890’s. Betty’s father built their summer home on Seaview beach in 1929, and it is still owned by her sister. Betty and her husband moved here from PA and became full time Madison residents in 1978.
Because of her son Sandy’s involvement with the Madison Lions, Betty became a stanch supporter of the club and allowed them to use the barn in their backyard as an unofficial clubhouse where they instituted many of their community projects.
Betty is survived by her son Robert Lewis Soars of Highland Lakes, NJ; her sister Charlotte C. Westerfield of Madison, CT and 4 grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her son H. Marshall "Sandy" Soars, II.
