Enda B. Campbell, age 89, left this world on Thursday April 16, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born in Belfast, Ireland and immigrated to the United States when she was two years old with her mother Catherine McGennity Glenn to join her father James J. Glenn. Enda grew up in Brooklyn, New York and was a graduate of Bishop McDonnell High School. After High School she was a telephone operator for AT&T and was part of a group selected to travel cross country to establish the AT&T Long Lines. When she returned to New York, she met a young sailor, Charles M. Campbell, who was the love of her life and they married in 1951. Enda and Charlie moved to the Kingsbridge neighborhood of the Bronx in 1958 to raise their young family. Enda was an active member of St. John’s Church and St. John’s School, where all four of her children attended. Her passion for singing and love for acting were realized through her participation in the St. John’s musical theatre productions. Enda became a charter member of the “Harlem River Swim Club”, and worked at Manhattan College where she would go on to become a proud alumna (Go Jaspers!). She received a Bachelor of Science (Summa Cum Laude) and Masters in Counseling, and was most proud of her years working as an Admissions Counselor at Manhattan College. She retired to Madison CT and spent the last twenty-six years there where she was active in the Encore Club, The Madison Senior Center and St. Margaret’s Church, where she was a member of the Resurrection choir. For the past eighteen months, she resided at The Gables of Guilford, where she enjoyed Saturday Horse Racing and singing in the Gables Choral Group.
Enda leaves behind her devoted husband Charles, her four loving children: Noraleen Dunphy (husband Kevin) of Bethel CT, son Glenn Campbell (wife Kimberly) of Indian Head MD, daughter Susan Garner of Madison CT, and daughter Nancy Ross (husband Kenneth) of Fairfield CT; her ten beloved grandchildren: Kristine and Kevin Dunphy, Brandon and Ashley Garner, Alexandra Garner, Katie and Charlie Campbell and Kyle, Keith and Kirk Charles Ross. Enda had one great-grandchild, Ryker Ray Garner, age 6 months, of whom she was so very proud!
Enda also leaves behind her brother James Glenn (wife Leslie) of New York and her sister Kathleen Flynn of Madison CT and Stewart FL, along with several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews that she was very fond of.
The family will receive friends on Sunday May 3, 2015 from 2-4 pm at the Swan Funeral Home. There will be a Memorial Mass of Celebration on Monday May 4, 2015 at 10 am at St Margaret’s Church, with burial following at West Cemetery, all in Madison CT.
