Frank W Colton passed away on Thursday May 22nd, 2025 in his home in Madison, Connecticut after a full and incredible life at the age of 97. He shared 62 wonderful years with his wife Nancy Colton who passed away in 2016.
Born in New York City he was the son of the late Louise Forsyth and Walter Van Taube. He was later adopted by Louise’s second husband William Colton. He served in the Navy during World War 2. Afterwards he graduated from Vanderbilt University and went to work in Coral Gables, Florida where he met Nancy at a church service. They were married shortly thereafter, and their son Stephen was born. Next, they moved to Needam MA where they had their daughter Susan, also known as Kia. There, Frank continued his education by getting a law degree at Suffolk University. They moved to Connecticut for their last 40 years together and he worked at New Haven Savings Bank until retiring. He was a loving father. Kind, generous, hardworking, brilliant.
Frank loved music. In his earlier years he played organ for the church and sang in opera productions. He and his wife were avid golf players and traveled all over the United States to play. They loved playing bridge, going to the theatre together and were actively involved in the Episcopal church in Madison and Guilford.
He is survived by his daughter Susan Kia, his son in law Ben and his nieces and nephews Lisa, Abby, Sarah, Ted and Joan.
The family would like to thank his caretaker Shirley, her family and the wonderful team at Comfort Keepers Erin, Nancy, Denis, Lori and the nurses at Hospice for the care and compassion they showed him in his final years.
Family and friends are invited to a military and episcopal grave side service on June 20th, 2025 at 11 am at West Cemetery in Madison.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation, in his honor, to Boys Town or Unicef.
