September 2, 1948 – February 4, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George K. Doolittle on February 4, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born on September 2, 1948 to the late Kenneth and Ann Doolittle , George graduated from West Haven High School in 1967. Shortly afterwards he joined the US Navy as a machinist mate. He first served on the USS Dealey. Then he served on the USS Boston while it patrolled the waters off the coast of Vietnam.
After his enlistment ended in 1972, he became a US Navy reservist until his honorable discharge in 1989. During that time he was awarded the National Defense Service Award. George took great pride in his service to his country.
In June of 1980, George married Margaret Craig, and together they shared 44 wonderful years. While George will be remembered as a devoted husband and father to Craig, he was also a treasured brother, a loyal friend and a man whose mischievous charm and warm heart touched everyone he met. You could often find him outdoors-chopping wood, tending to his garden, relaxing at the beach, or traveling with his wife on cruises, where they formed many close friendships.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Marge; his son, Craig, and his wife, Katie; his granddaughter, Lydia; his sisters, Glady Protz, Betty Flanders, and Sydne Palmer; and his brother, Paul Doolittle.
Family and friends are invited to offer their condolences to George’s family on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, Madison, CT 06443.
Throughout his life George demonstrated a youthful, playful spirit. He loved being around young people. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations in George’s name to the Madison Soccer Club, an organization that reflects his love for youth and community.
