Ingrid Stalemark Dean, 78, of Madison passed away peacefully after a brief illness on September 16, 2018, surrounded by family. Born in Stockholm, Sweden on October 10, 1939, she was predeceased by her cherished parents, Ragnar and Malin Stalemark. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Dean, son Alan (Jessica) of Madison, son Jeffrey (Lisa) of Stratham, New Hampshire, daughter Amy Childs (Sam) of Old Lyme and her seven beloved grandchildren: Hayley, Paige and Mallory Dean, Natalie and Elizabeth Dean, and Andrew and William Childs. Ingrid also leaves behind her sister Annika Andersson (Eric) of Sweden, her brother Gunnar (Ellen) of Florida, many nieces and nephews, countless dear friends and her sweet rescue cat, Luna.
In 1957, Ingrid’s father’s job at L M Ericsson brought her family from Stockholm to Armonk, NY, where she graduated from Pleasantville High School, followed by Vermont College in the mountains she loved near Montpelier, VT. She went on to work at IBM in New York City and then Second National Bank in New Haven before devoting her time to raising her children and eventually doting on her treasured grandchildren. Ingrid’s hobbies throughout the years included cross country skiing, tennis, Bridge, bird watching, cooking for family and friends, long nature walks, needlepoint and drawing. A member of the Madison Beach Club since 1976, she spent many summers in the company of cherished friends there, playing tennis and enjoying the beauty of Long Island Sound. She also loved all four seasons in the Belgrade Lakes of Maine during time spent at the family “camp.” Ingrid was a gentle, caring, thoughtful and lovely person who will be so dearly missed.
Ingrid’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to the nurses at Yale New Haven Hospital-St. Raphael’s Campus for their care and genuine concern during her valiant battle the last few weeks of her life. Brave and selfless until the end, they said she never complained, and asked them about their lives when she was able to. There will be a memorial on Sunday, September 23 at 2pm at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Madison, followed by a celebration of Ingrid’s life at the Madison Beach Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Bauer Park, Town of Madison, CT.
