Irving George Eastland of Madison, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2018, two days before his 84th birthday. Irv courageously battled a growing number of health problems since early this summer.
Born in Middletown, CT on Oct. 1, 1934, Irv grew up in Madison and was a graduate of Daniel Hand High School, and Nichols College in Mass. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Marjorie Eastland, and brother Barry Wayne Eastland and sister in law Patty. He was also predeceased by a cousin, David Burghardt of Clinton.
Irv was a gifted statistician, and enjoyed a distinguished career with The Nielsen Co. for over 30 years as a retail and consumer goods analyst. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard, receiving an Honorable discharge in 1963. Irv was a devoted and exceptionally knowledgeable fan of the New York and San Francisco Giants. Long before the advent of fact checking, Irv was a most reliable source of sports history and trivia.
Although without children of his own, Irv always regaled in the company of his extended family. He is survived by his dedicated sister, Jayne Champion of Beacon Falls; a nephew, Colin Eastland and his partner Joseph Landry of Madison; and cousins, James Eastland of Ivoryton, Timothy Eastland of Old Lyme, Barbara Hax of Wallingford, Nancy Eddins of Kailua, HI, Ric Duques, of Sarasota, FL, Dale Moore of Clinton, Michel Duques of Madison, Thomas Theis of CO, Alan Duques of Killingworth, and devoted friend Edie Nagy of Clinton. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the First Congregational Church in Madison, CT at 11AM on Friday, October 12, 2018.
