John Francis Malboeuf, 87, of Guilford, formally a long-time resident of North Branford, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2024 with his daughters by his side after a short struggle. John, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was born August 19, 1936, in New Haven, son of the late Roland Malboeuf and Katherine (Fitzimmons) Malboeuf. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Paula (Lupone) Malboeuf.
John went to school at Wilbur Cross Highschool where he dazzled everyone with his diving skills. After high school he enlisted in the army and was in the airborne division. True to his adventurous spirit, he was a paratrooper. Over the years, he told many a story of his time spent in Germany and regretfully he never was able to return.
Upon return from the army, he started his career as a truck driver for the Hood Company. As luck would have it, Paula worked in the office, and that’s where their story began. John went on to drive a tractor trailer for Texaco until he suffered a devastating stroke in 1993. While at Texaco he earned many accolades but was most proud of being a member of The Million Mile Club, indicating that he drove a million miles accident free!
In his free time, John was a proud member of the North Branford Volunteer Fire Department, an avid bowler and boater extraordinaire. In 1987 his dream came true, and he purchased his first boat, “Candy Man”. He could have met you only once, and there was a standing invitation to join him for a cruise! John was also Paula’s right-hand man in their business venture, Paula’s Candy Kitchen. He could always be found behind the counter, giving people advice and offering a taste of the “best candy in the world” according to him! A tribute to John would not be complete without mentioning his love for his dogs over the years. He loved English Springer Spaniels and, in his lifetime, owned three, Josephine, Rhonda and Candy (appropriately named).
John will be especially missed by his devoted daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and James Kenney of Madison and Renee and Robert Boudreau of Clinton. “Pop” will always hold a special place in the hearts of his beloved grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Ensign Simmons, James and Jessica Kenney, Rebecca Boudreau and Sara and Thomas Kirsch; and his precious great granddaughters, Charlotte and Madeleine Simmons, Violet and Aubrey Kenney and introducing the newest addition, twins, Brynlee and Madison Kirsch. John is also survived by his sisters, Jean Busch and Lorraine Grasso and his loving sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Mark Kunza. John, AKA, Johnny Blue, Uncle Buck, Uncle John will also be missed by loving nieces, nephews and so many lifelong friends.
Although John struggled with health issues over the past 30 years, he never missed a holiday celebration, a life event of one of his loving family and most importantly he seized every opportunity to enjoy a good dish of clams and spaghetti! John never lost his sense of humor and irresistible charisma. John’s family will remember what a strong man he was; he never gave up the fight right up until the end. Rest easy Johnny Blue!
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to The Guilford House and Connecticut Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Margaret’s Church, 24 Academy St. Madison, CT. 06443. A burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Ave. North Haven, CT 06473.
