Mia Gabrielle Fontana, 15, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, left this earth on May 20, 2021. Born to Joseph and Gabrielle Fontana on July 26th, 2005; sister of Isabella and Sofia Fontana; and granddaughter of Anthony Alfano "Grandpa" and the late Martha Alfano "Grandma", Gabriel Fontana "Pop-pop" and Mary Teresa Fontana "Mimi".
Mia was a kind, caring, gentle and adorable child. Throughout her life she had the gift of gab, able to carry warm, welcoming and engaging conversations with friends, adults, strangers and even repetitive 2-hour conversations with her dementia-affected Grandma.
Mia was very competitive and did not like to lose. When playing cards with her, you had to be wary of her wandering eyes. She kept track of her backgammon record with each family member and always held significant advantages in wins. It was most frustrating to compete in backgammon with her as she would limit play to no more than one game per family member each day, which was typically a win for her.
Mia had a flair for style. Whether it was sweat pants, goth, face framing her hair in red or repainting her bedroom with a black wall, she had an innate sense of how to make anything look good. She developed a great interest in skin care and after meeting you for more than a few minutes, would analyze your skin type and provide a detailed skin care regimen.
Mia matured into a force of nature whose beautiful spirit and bright energy left a significant impact on all who knew her. She was kind-hearted, intelligent, strong-willed and energetic. We will dearly miss her smile and warm embrace of non-judgmental conversation but are comforted to know that she has joined her Grandma, Mimi and Pop-pop in heaven.
A Celebration of Life Mass for Mia was held at The Shrine of The Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington, DC on Saturday, May 29th, 2021, and can be viewed via the below link.
